Sheriff’s Office    

Primary Functions

  • Contracts, coordinates, and effects housing and transportation of prisoners for all court related appearances and activities.

  • Provide Court Security.

  • Serve arrest warrants for both the District Justice and Common Pleas Court.

  • Serve Protection From Abuse Orders (PFA); within Sullivan County and enforce such orders as needed.

  • Serve all civil process for both the District Justice and Common Pleas Court.

  • Serve Mental Health Warrants for involuntary commitments. (302's)

  • Process Orders & Writs of Execution and conduct levies & Sheriff Sales in accordance with Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure.

  • Conduct background investigations of applicants applying for a "License to Carry a Firearm," as outlined in the Pennsylvania Uniform Firearms Act.

  • Upon request, provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies.

  • Disposal of old medications is available. If you cannot travel to the courthouse to drop off medications, a deputy can be sent to your home. Please call the sheriff's office for arrangements.

  • In 1995, the Pennsylvania General Assembly authorized the Attorney General to enter into reciprocal agreement with other states that provided for the mutual recognition of License to Carry Firearm. The most current information concerning have reciprocity agreements is posted on the Attorney General’s web site at https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/resources/concealed-carry-reciprocity/ All licenses issued by reciprocity states are recognized in Pennsylvania.

  • Valid PA ID or Driver's License and $20.00 cash, check, or credit card. If paying with a credit card, there is a $1.00 processing fee to PAYGOV.

Working For The Sheriff

The Sullivan County Sheriff is seeking applicants for both full-time and part-time positions of Deputy Sheriff.


Duties include but are not limited to providing court security, serving warrants and Protection from Abuse Orders as directed by the Court, conducting background investigations related to License to Carry or License to Sell Firearms, and transporting and monitoring detained persons in the Sheriff’s custody.


The successful applicant must have the ability to pass a Criminal Background Check, possess a valid PA Driver’s License with a good driving history, and must possess or be willing to obtain Act 1984-2/Act 2014-114 (Sheriff/Deputy Sheriff Basic or Waiver Training) and maintain certification along with completing yearly training and continuing education consisting of legal updates required to maintain Act 2 certification.
